Caddo Metro Culture Club Announces 13th Annual Fall Festival at First Americans Museum

Updated: Sep 24

The Caddo Metro Culture Club is gearing up for its 13th Annual Fall Festival, set to take place on Sunday, November 17th, at the First Americans Museum (FAM) in Oklahoma City. This eagerly anticipated event promises to be a celebration of Caddo culture, history, and traditions.

Jennifer Wilson, Oklahoma City Area District Representative for the Caddo Nation Tribal Council and a key organizer of the festival, shared details about the upcoming event. "This year, we're going to highlight the history of our homelands and how it intertwines with our traditional dances," Wilson explained.

The festival will feature a special presentation by Phil Cross, who will give a talk about the Caddo homelands. Cross has conducted extensive research on Caddo history, focusing on the tribe's movement, removal, and migration from Louisiana through Texas, southeast Oklahoma, and southwest Arkansas, to their current location in Binger, Oklahoma.

In addition to the historical presentation, the event will showcase traditional Caddo dances, providing attendees with a visual representation of the tribe's rich cultural heritage. The festival will also include informational booths from various tribal programs, offering attendees the opportunity to learn more about Caddo Nation services and initiatives.

The Metro Caddo Culture Club, which organizes the annual festival, was founded to serve Caddo people in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area who may find it challenging to attend events in Binger regularly. "We started the Metro club because a lot of people just can't go down there for one reason or another," Wilson said. "We wanted to do something here in the metro area."

Over the years, the festival has grown significantly, attracting both Caddo Nation members and the general public. The choice of the First Americans Museum as the venue has been particularly well-received. "People love to come to FAM," Wilson noted. "I heard many say, 'Oh, this is the first time I've been here,' and they really like that. It makes the tribe look good."

The Caddo Metro Culture Club Fall Festival is made possible through partnerships with the Caddo Nation, grants from Oklahoma Humanities and the Arts Council, and the dedicated efforts of club members. The event not only serves as a celebration of Caddo culture but also as an educational opportunity for the wider community.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 17th, and join the Caddo Metro Culture Club at the First Americans Museum for a day of history, dance, and cultural enrichment. More details about the event will be released in the coming weeks.
